Active Transportation and Demand Management (ATDM) Application of Tools for Tactical and Strategic Decision Making for Operations

This task was performed under the direction of Battelle Inc. for the Federal Highway Administration. The purpose of this task order was to understand traveler decision-making and the motivations driving travelers to change behavior as a function of the surrounding travel conditions. Such understanding is critical to the success of different ATDM applications. Professor Hamdar and the George Washington University were responsible for designing a virtual travel environment to capture the different motivations and social interactions involved in commute travel conditions with focus on the impact of travel time reliability, incidents, weather conditions and “inertia” (as a function of perceived biases and habit) on traveler behavior.
